[OOC] Another Day in Paradise

Post #1  by CrimsonSprite on Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:40 pm

Okay. This thread will serve as the OOC HQ for Another Day in Paradise. As more facts are learned throughout the writing of the story, this post will be edited to include the information. Here is what we have thus far:

(Ship name pending)
Crew:
Bal - Age: 40 - Ex-Marine
Sheyenne - Age: 39 - Ex-Marine R.N.
Pilot
Scientist - NPC - Nyls, a German around roughly the same age as Bal
Mechanic

Timeline of Events:

2027 - Current year.

2012 -
December 21:
- Earth destroyed when China and Russia declared all-out nuclear war against the former United States of America.

- Bal and crew witness the destruction of their home planet from orbit. Shortly thereafter, the crew makes its way to Parabon VI.

December 20: 0420:
- Evacuation of necessary (a.k.a important) personnel of Earth begins. News outlets taken over by government prevent the mass general public from learning information on said evacuations or the impending doom.

- Bal and crew leave Earth and maintain orbit for the next 24 hours while completing final alterations and minor adjustments to the shuttle to travel the distance to Parabon VI.

December 19:
- Bal and crew hijack a test shuttle and prep it for evacuation from Earth.

1975
- Construction of the first town settlement completed.
- First settlers from Earth begin to arrive.

1971
- Phase I on Parabon VI is completed.
- Phase II begins. Next set of ships/crews arrive.
- Construction of necessary buildings and services begin.

1960
- Phase I for the Colonization of Parabon VI begins. Small crews, a dozen ships, travel to Parabon VI.
- Military base is established and exploration/scientific discovery work begins.

1952
- Parabon VI is discovered outside of the Milky Way system. Able to support life, the crew reports their findings to NASA and begins transmitting all necessary data.

1951
- The world's first spaceship designed for long-distance space travel is launched, carrying a crew of 6. Their mission is to locate a planet that could one day house human life.

Working on establishing Stefan and crew in the next day or so. Presuming that they will be working for/with the current reigning body for Parabon VI. Whether said ruling body is good or bad remains to be seen. With this, however, there are a couple questions that need be discussed.

1: Is it an American colony on Parabon VI or is it a mixture of assorted Earth nationalities?

2: Among the survivors of Earth (those that left to establish Parabon VI and those that managed to escape the destruction), is everyone in a peace? Do American survivors harbor a hatred of Russian and Chinese? Do/did the Russians and Chinese mobilize their own space odysseys and establish their own colonies? When faced with the destruction of Earth, do all countries now work together?

3: How advanced do we have current military or otherwise ships? Are we looking at something of a Wing Commander type set up where you essentially have larger "naval" ships for a fleet? Does an actual fleet even exist or is one being planned?

4: Would it be possible, or should I even proceed, with the idea of incorporating New Houston into this? Tweaking a bit of backstory, or just adding from another perspective, would likely allow for such. It would give another dimension to say the least.

To help those that aren't familiar, New Houston was a similar sci-fi militaristic setting. Essentially, the New Houston is a mobile command center that was tasked with exploration and other more sensitive missions. Somewhat like the Enterprise, though when this was active, the backstory was such that all survivors of Earth were on good terms. It had been a global effort of relocation and colonization of the galaxy. This could still happen here, though the idea would need a bit of rework in order to jive with the current storyline. It is possible that this was a hush-hush project on another planet besides Parabon VI, or possible, too, that the New Houston may have been one of the ships launched in an effort to save survivors of the United States. I think that the former would work a bit better, utilizing the better military types to serve on the New Houston.

Any thoughts would be great.

Sounds great to me pal. I'm getting back into enjoying writing without the yoke of running SWE weighing me down and without the petty BS. Getting the chance to write with you outside that setting would be excellent in any capacity.

I think it has people from a least all the more modern countries of today, European, American, UK, Russia, China, Canada, Japan...etc. I'd say there are quite a few countries not represented from some poorer areas of Africa, South America and so on. Thats not to say there aren't some, but certainly I wouldn't think an equal representation compared to the major players mentioned.

I'm open to anything, but I'd think at present we'd be looking at some sort of necessary peace. Bigotry, dislike, and outright resentment probably would exist, but would just be swallowed down in a greater good kind of situation.

Based on what you've written there, I have to confess to rather liking the notion of having it be part of things. Enterprise or Galactica like is a feel I've long reached for with some of the grittier ideas I've wanted to convey back at SWE but never quite achieved.

Sounds great to me. I'll see what I can cook up either tonight or tomorrow and get something posted, unless otherwise noted. Considering the amount of backstory I may end up adding, it will be lengthy and may end up taking a bit longer.

Cool.

I realized I missed question number three previously in my haste to reply. My answer to that would be that I imagine something simplistic. There are basic ships that can get folks from point A to point B, but I'm not sure things have evolved to fighter status as yet.

That said, I am open to anything in the world as far as this goes. I'm just here to have fun.

Brilliant writing Mindy. Thats the kind of stuff that makes me want to keep RPing even when I get frustrated now and then.
